This latest research on aqueous lithium battery systems can improve the performance of lithium batteries by 80%. Electric vehicles can travel 400 kilometers with only 10 seconds of charging. This type of battery is inexpensive, safe, and not explosive.
Wu Yuping's research team demonstrated this lithium battery system to reporters on the 13th. A thin piece of metal lithium, tightly wrapped by a specially made composite film, is placed in an aqueous solution with a neutral pH value, and assembled with the traditional cathode material spinel lithium manganate in lithium ion batteries. A new type of lithium water battery with an average charging voltage of 4.2V and a discharge voltage of 4.0V can be produced. This achievement greatly breaks through the theoretical decomposition voltage of 1.23V for aqueous solutions.
This achievement by Wu Yuping's research team provides the possibility to develop new low-cost, easy to mass production, safe and environmentally friendly battery systems. It is said that the new type of lithium water battery uses aqueous solution as an electrolyte, which enhances its flame retardancy, making it less prone to heat and heat during use, and has high safety performance; The composite membrane made of polymer and inorganic materials can reduce the energy loss of the battery to less than 5%.
It is estimated that if this type of battery is used for mobile phones, a battery of the same size can at least double the phone's talk time, and the cost is less than half of the original; The same is true for cars, which pose much less pollution to the environment than existing lithium batteries.
Wu Yuping said that the American Energy Research Institute has "targeted" the research and hopes to reach a cooperation intention with him. However, he prefers to cooperate with forward-looking domestic enterprises. He said, "The new type of lithium water battery can be specifically applied to all aspects of life. I hope that the breakthrough in lithium water battery can ultimately make consumers feel safe and accept costs, and solve the current global stalled electric vehicle industry."
